TOWANDA RALLIES IN FOURTH QUARTER TO EDGE ATHENS JV, 38-35
 

TOWANDA — Towanda knocked down a pair of key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to rally for a 38-35 win over Athens here Saturday afternoon in NTL junior varsity girls basketball action.

Karlee Bartlow scored five points and Abby Champion added four points to help Athens an 11-6 lead after the first quarter.

Destiny Brennan and Gracie Schoonover combined for 13 points in the second quarter to fuel a 13-8 spurt that tied the game at 19-19 at the half.

Emma Bronson scored four points in the third quarter in a 9-6 spurt that gave the junior Wildcats a 28-25 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Brennan and Eliza Fowler each drained 3-pointers, and Bella Hurley made a pair of free throws as Towanda used a 13-7 run to pull out the win.

Bartlow led Athens with 16 points, six boards, four steals, two assists, and one blocked shot, while Bronson had 11 points, five steals, two assists, and one blocked shot, Champion added four points and three rebounds, and Mya Thompson hauled down 14 rebounds, recorded six steals, and blocked two shots.

Brennan led Towanda with 11 points, and Schoonover added 10 points.

Athens returns to action Monday at Benton.
