ATHENS FALLS AT MONTGOMERY IN SEASON FINALE; ELIMINATED FROM POSTSEASON PLAY
 

MONTGOMERY — Faith Persing tossed a three-hitter, and drove in four runs to lead Montgomery to a four-inning, 15-0, win over Athens here Wednesday in non-league softball action.

The loss eliminates the Lady Wildcats from postseason play. They finish the 2021 campaign with a 9-11 record.

After a scoreless 1 1/2 innings, the Lady Red Raiders scored six runs in the bottom of the second. They added two runs in the third, and closed the game out via the “mercy rule” with seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 15-run lead.

Pressing allowed three singles in four scoreless innings, while striking out 10 and walking two to earn the win.

Senior Caydence Macik, and freshmen Jules Pack, and Ella Coyle all singled to account for Athens’ three hits.

Pressing doubled and singled, scored one run, and had four RBI, and Shelby McRae doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in three runs, and Jenna Waring singled twice, scored three runs, and knocked in one run to pace Montgomery’s 10-hit attack.
