ATHENS WINS OPENING LEAGUE MATCH
 

WAVERLY — Athens junior Evan Cooper earned low-medal honors, leading Athens to a 6-0 record in the opening NTL golf match of the season here Wednesday afternoon at The Club at Shepard Hills.

Athens fired a four-man aggregate score of 346 to earn six wins, while Wyalusing was second at 369, followed by Wellsboro at 381, North Penn-Mansfield at 406, Cowanesque Valley at 410, and Towanda at 436. Sayre was 0-6 at 503.

Cooper registered five birdies in a round of 80 on the par-72 course, while his teammate — junior Dylan Saxon — finished second with a round of 84.

Wyalusing senior Brody Fuhrey was third with an 85, and Cowanesque Valley junior Nick West and Wyalusing junior Nick Salsman tied for fourth with rounds of 87.

Athens senior Cam Sullivan and junior Nicholas Jacob tied for seventh with matching rounds of 91.

Athens senior Lucas Kraft finished 14th with a non-scoring round of 96, and junior Sean Clare was 20th with a 106.

Senior Kegan Hayford led Sayre with a round of 117, while freshman Karger Green shot a 119, junior David Hall Jr. added a 127, and freshman Ryne Osmond tacked on a 140.

The Athens and Sayre golfers return to action Monday at the Tyoga Country Club in Wellsboro.
